Here's a little guy who really wanted to live! Hot Rod was born a couple days ago in Texas at Ron Gill's ranch. Ron is the Associate Department Head for Extension at Texas A&M. When he found Hot Rod's mom, he was afraid she was already dead and bloated, as she had a very swollen calf's tongue hanging out of her but no feet. At this point Dr. Gill was just hoping to salvage the heifer, and it was an extremely hard pull with Hot Rod getting hip locked. "...but he was pretty spunky even before I got him out."
After some TLC, mom and Hot Rod were both doing well the next day although Hot Rod was still a little unsteady on his feet. Now he's bucking and playing and a testimony to the will to live. And very cute!
