Rodeo Austin Jr Market Steer Judge

Blake Nelson, Vice President AMAA

A little about yourself –

I grew up on a cow-calf operation in Eastern Oklahoma, where I started showing in FFA. I went on to join the collegiate judging teams at Conners State and Oklahoma State University. After I finished school, I went back to Conners to coach the livestock judging team and was the director of farm operations/livestock coordinator from 2000-2015. I have been the Executive Vice President of the AMAA since.

Biggest pet peeve –

Negative people. There are enough challenges in the world right now that nobody has time for negativity…it is wasted energy!

What excited you about the future of the cattle industry –

It excites me to know that the younger generations want to go back to the family farms. With all the advancements in technology it will allow them to make changes and adapt as needed to help the farms grow and thrive but yet they still have that strong family foundation to fall back on.

If you could tell 18-year-old you one thing what would it be –

Decide what you want to be and GO FOR IT!

This will be Blake’s second time to judge the market steers at Rodeo Austin. “Any time I get to judge a show it is an honor and I want to treat kids like I would want my kids to be treated.”

If you can't be there to watch Mr. Blake Nelson judge make sure you tune in online!
