Hereford Feedlot Working with Walmart in New Angus Beef Supply Chain
HEREFORD, TX (KFDA) - Mc6 Cattle Feeders, Inc. in Hereford is feeding thousands of head of Angus cattle here in the Panhandle that will ultimately end up in Southeast Walmart stores.
A customer of the feedlot, 44 Farms, brought Mc6 on board after partnering with Walmart for this project.
“We had been feeding their natural cattle for about five years and Walmart actually came to them and asked if they would be interested in a project like this,” said General Manager of Mc6 Cattle Feeders, Inc. Warren White.
44 Farms and Prime Pursuits will source the raised cattle, Mc6 will feed them and they’ll go to Creekstone Farms for processing.
“We’re going to feed these cattle, not only at this location, but three or four locations in Nebraska,” said White. “We actually have cattle on feed here at this facility right now. We’ve got several thousand turned out in Nebraska. And these cattle will be finished this fall and start into the pipeline.”
According to a Walmart news release, they want to provide quality beef for customers while being transparent about where the meat is coming from.
“Black Angus beef is known for its marbling features,” said White. “With the no-hormone piece to this, that should enhance the marbling of these cattle, and they’re going to have a premium brand label with Black Angus beef, non-hormone product in their counters.”
Walmart said they’re proud to work with companies like Mc6 that have a strong history in the beef industry.
Mc6 Cattle Feeders is excited to be working with the national retailer and believes it will help grow the beef industry as a whole.
“This program I think will change how the different segments in the industry evolve from this,” said White. “They’re committed to it, we’re committed to it, the group at 44 Farms is committed to it and the processes that not only we do here in the feed yard but at the ranch level, all the way to the packing house and case ready plants. All these things are the newest innovative ideas that are out there and I think it’s I think it’s a game-changer.”
